Happy Memorial Day Everyone

31 May 2010

Taking a moment to thank all who serve and have served in the United States Military. There is no one branch is better then the other, rank doesn’t play an effect either. In the end it always boils down to sacrificing your own freedom and safety to protect a country of nameless faces, keeping them safe.

Over the last couple of years something has bothered me about America and our Service Members. Do you ever take the time to think back about the past history of America’s view on our Service Members? I spend a lot of time thinking about the differences now vs. then, especially during the Vietnam Era. It truly breaks my heart how our men were treated back then. How disrespectful and rude people could be. It was rampant and no one felt any shame for it. I often wonder how many of those people, the ones who were hateful and rude; have now shaken the hand of a Service Member thanking them since this new war?

I can only hope that we move forward in our lives, that we do not repeat the hatefulness that was given to the men who left as boys and came back as scared old men during the Vietnam Era.

It’s amazing how many people I’ve met in life who view this day as a day to remember the fallen only. This is a day to remember those who’s families are still waiting and praying to be able to hold their Soldiers, as they have yet to come home.

I hope everyone has a safe day and has enjoyed their weekends.
