More Adventures in Potty Training

14 March 2011

After months of stressing over it, I think it’s safe to say that Piggies has finally gotten the hang of potty training. It wasn’t even as close to as bad as it was when Monkey started.

(And before I forget Princess has now been dubbed Piggies around the house since in order for her to not be sporting an afro, I HAVE to put her in pig tails. Hence the nickname Piggies)

I mean there is still progress to be made like sleeping the night without a diaper/pull-up.

But we are getting there!

The first month was a huge hit and miss mess. I have to admit for once in my life I was so incredibly grateful for having hardwood floors quickly.

Second month we just stopped trying because she made it VERY clear she wanted nothing to do with it. And I absolutely REFUSE to push any child into potty training when they are adamant about not wanting to try it.

Then the past month and a half she has been doing absolutely amazing. Well when we are home that is. When she was really sick I truly wished she would give up and let me diaper her tush up but even sick as a dog she refused and would run to the bathroom every other second of her day.

She CAN make it through nap time without a pull-up so that's another positive step.

Here's couple things I’ve learned with her on this adventure:

-          Never EVER be embarrassed to bring her potty chair with you. Always throw it in the back of the truck. Ya just never know when you're going to need it, like on the side of the road on the highway.

-          Don’t worry about anyone being in your way when you have to pick her up, cradling her like a football as you run through a crowded Walmart/Commissary knocking over people to get her to the bathroom in time.

-          When you can’t find those favorite jeans for her to wear and realize they are in the diaper bag make sure to toss an EXTRA set in the bag so she doesn’t have to bowl naked.

-          Do not trust your 4 yr old to bring the 2 yr old toilet paper because they WILL clog your toilet

-          Do not teach your child to help carry the pee to the toilet because they WILL get over excited thinking they are a big kid, pick up the little pee holder and without meaning to, swing it around to show you covering you, the dog, and your flat screen in yupp you guessed it... PEE!

Those are really just a couple of helpful hints that I’ve picked up and they seem to be helping as we make progress on this journey.

What are some of your less then glorious lessons learned during this adventure?

Adventures of potty training

09 February 2010

pottytraining

I would love to say the adventures of potty training are smooth sailing. When I quit my job in November this was one of the parenting tasks I figured would be smooth sailing. I’d LOVE to say that Monkey is the easiest of all the kids. I’d LVOE to say that this adventure doesn’t make me want to pull my hair out. Or to say that he has the concept down perfectly.

But I can’t.

Every time I think we’re making a new step, he’s taking 2 backwards. I know it has to do with The Man coming and going during Christmas. He was doing so incredibly well before. Now it’s a headache. Last night we’re watching tv. Lil t’ is on the floor and Monkey is on the couch. He climbs down yelling he has to pee but doesn’t head for the bathroom. In the time it clicked in my head what he was doing, putting the laptop down and jumping up; Monkey pulled his pants down and peed on Lil t’. Yes you read that right. He whipped it out and peed on his big brother’s head. I about died. Chased him to the bathroom, yelled for a couple minutes, threw Lil t’ in the shower and then I ran into my room shutting the door before shoving my face into a pillow while I screamed and laughed uncontrollably. On one hand it was so incredibly disgusting and rude. While on the other hand, I found the whole thing hilarious. I have issues. I mean seriously, what goes through that boy’s mind that told him it was okay to pee on his brother?!

How the Nerf n Strike Recon CS-6 clothed my toddler

Lately potty training has become horrible. Monkey soaks through his pull up at night no matter what time  cut him off of liquids or make him go before bed. He is having accidents during nap time, not making it to the bathroom in time, and peeing everywhere BUT the toilet. He was almost done with potty training, then Daddy came home on Exodus for Christmas; and now we’ve slipped backwards again.

The other day Monkey had a horrible day between his nonstop singing whining no tear song of how much he misses daddy, refusing to listen, and not making it to the bathroom; I finally stripped him of all his clothes to let him run around naked.

Oh boy what did I create? He spent all day running around, shaking his wiener with his hips and yelling “Shake Shake, Shake my wiener”. As funny as it was the first 5 minutes it quickly lost its humor. I tried to cloth him and he would strip again.  At one point after 6 long hours of listening to him sing his song, I made a threat that if it weren’t put away it could get cut off or hurt. He promptly responded with “No not my MAGIC wiener” and ran away again.

So what does a mother do with a 3 year old who is refusing to put his clothes back on, won’t stop saying he misses daddy, is shaking his wiener all over the place? I took Lil t’ new Nerf gun with red eye sight and shot my son as he went running through the living room again.

Yes I know violence is not the answer, but I was under siege by a “magic shaking wiener” and it NEEDED to get put into pajamas and go to sleep.
